Alain Peyrot and Steven Weber participated in the sessions and technical exhibit at the latest CIGRE meeting held in Paris in early September. The main theme of the conference was "Overhead Lines and the Environment". Attendees were primarily interested in the areas of on-line monitoring, assessment, upgrading and uprating of existing lines. We were gratified to see how many companies were already using our PLS-CADD 3-dimensional modeling capabilities to assess and upgrade their lines.
Among the many active international PLS-CADD users that Alain and Steve met at the exhibit were Mr. Maurizio Leva, Transmission Lines Engineering Manager of ABB-SAE-SADELMI, Milan, Italy (Fig. 1) and Mr. Boris Mekhanoshin, President and CEO of OPTEN Ltd from Moscow, Russia (Fig. 2). Opten is an international firm providing airborne laser-based surveys, including mapping and modeling of existing lines.
Alain and Steve are already looking forward to the next CIGRE meeting in 2000. We hope to see you in Paris then if not before!
