2003 Program Improvements

At Power Line Systems we continually improve our software. Below we list some of the more significant enhancements made during the year 2003. Click here for improvements made in 2002 or here for the most recent enhancements.

PLS-CADD^™

• Added Lines/Reports/Construction Staking Report that includes information frequently requested by surveyors such as guy anchor positions and lead lengths
• Can now import TINs from a LandXML file using the Terrain/TIN/Import From LandXML File command
• Added the Lines/Reports/Danger Tree Locator that spots trees that could impact a wire should they fall (Read an article about the use of this command)
• Now have an option to compress backup files reducing their size by a factor of ~2-10
• Now keep track of separate graphics and report printer settings
• Added the View/Calculate Area command that allows measuring area in the plan view
• Reduced File/Open and Save times by 4-100x for large projects
• Drafting now allows control over text size, line weight, color, style and layer name along with numerous other improvements
• A structure range can now be specified for offset clipping which makes it easy to establish snub locations and even allows stringing through dead ends

PLS-POLE^™

• Can now place vangs on davit and cross arms
• Added Geometry/Switch Pole Material command that makes it easy to compare wood, steel and concrete pole designs
• Now have options to include multiple models in a backup file and to compress backup files reducing their size by a factor of ~2-10
• Can now model a lap gap between steel tubes which gives a tolerance for galvanizing, erection and/or manufacturing slop
• Now keep track of separate graphics and report printer settings
• Added Geometry/Insulators/Calculate Allowable 2-Part Load Angles command

TOWER^™

• Implemented NGC-ECCS (UK NNA to EN50341-3-9) member capacity calculation
• Now have options to include multiple models in a backup file and to compress backup files reducing their size by a factor of ~2-10
• Now keep track of separate graphics and report printer settings
• Added Geometry/Insulators/Calculate Allowable 2-Part Load Angles command
• Increased the maximum number of joints and members the program can handle
• Implemented BS8100 (British Standard 8100) for member and connection capacity calculation
