Program Progress

Click here for full image The often requested enhancements to allow multiple alignments in PLS-CADD are now in beta testing and will ship in version 6.40 in November (click on the picture to the right for a preview). While you have been able to model taps, branches and parallel lines for some time, the tricks used to do so did not always result in attractive profiles or plan & profile sheets. With the new multiple alignment feature, you can add as many branches, taps, parallel lines and alternate routes as you like. Each one of these gets its own section of profile which is automatically included on your plan & profile sheets. Best of all, you do this with the same simple PI commands you already know how to use. Multiple alignment capability was the most requested feature at the last user's group meeting and we are pleased to announce that it will be shipping soon.

PLS-CADD version 6.40 will also include a number of improvements that will be of particular interest to LiDAR users. These include speeding up key program routines, adding polygon fence capability for deactivating points or reassigning feature codes, and an option for compressing backup files (see our previous newsletter for other recent improvements). Compressing backup files typically reduces their size by a factor of 2-10 times thus making them much easier to archive and email. This option is also available in TOWER and PLS-POLE and is particularly helpful when used in conjunction with the new "include multiple models" backup file option for storing an entire structure family in a single backup file.

Some other upcoming improvements worthy of mention include:

Upcoming Events and Training Sessions

We are planning a two day transmission tower modeling seminar. This will be a hands-on, bring your own notebook, class using TOWER. The class will be held January 13-14 in Madison, Wisconsin and the registration fee will be US$ 600 per participant. The seminar will be conducted by Otto Lynch, Bob Nickerson, and Alain Peyrot with the participation of Erik Jacobsen who is a TOWER software developer. If you are interested please email info@powline.com so we can notify you when additional details become available. This will probably be the only 2-day class exclusively on TOWER in 2004, so make sure you do not miss this unique opportunity.

Two other upcoming training sessions include:

We have tentative plans to hold a PLS-CADD user group meeting in Pittsburgh in April 2004. We will post more details about the meeting on our News page later this year.
