Year In Review

In 2004 we continued the drafting and large project improvements that were a theme throughout 2003; however, we did not stop there and also made an enormous investment in automating loading calculations according to a wide variety of standards. This effort culminated in version 7 which was released in November. This version also included the much desired Section Editing Table, improved Multiple Alignment support (taps, branches and parallel lines), enhanced DXF drawings, EMF calculator, automatic pole selector and XML integration capabilities. Perhaps as a result of the wide variety of improvements it has been very well received with more than half of version 6 users having upgraded within a month of the release.

The improvements will continue in 2005 with items such as DXF export of attached images, improved DXF font handling, a new TIN model that uses 1/4th the memory of the current TIN, electric and magnetic field contours and independent insulator properties for each phase in a set (ability to model IVI within one set). We will also mainstream a completely new method of calculating clearances that was the subject of a recent T&D article. As always there will be some surprise improvements along the way.

The many international loading codes added reflect the continued international adoption of our software with clients in 75 countries. In the last year alone PLS classes and user groups were held in: Sunshine Coast (Australia), Montreal (Canada), Nantes (France), Wellington (New Zealand), Panama City (Panama), Dubai (UAE), London (United Kingdom), Leeds (United Kingdom), Madison (US), Las Vegas (US), Springfield (US); as well as onsite trainings in too many places to list.

Our programs truly are the worldwide standard in line design software with 142 new clients in 44 countries adopting them in 2004 alone. We'd like to thank these new clients as well as all of you who have been with us for years for making 2004 another excellent year. We look forward to continuing to work with you in the New Year to make the worlds best transmission line design software.
